Sunday, May 2nd, from 2 to 5 PM, the MHC Historical Society will host our third Discover Upstairs Uptown Tour. This year the society is partnering with the Makeover Martinsville-Henry County event. Admission for the tours is $5 per person and proceeds benefit Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society. Tour tickets will be available in the lobby of the Jefferson Plaza adjacent to Daily Grind.
Upstairs tour locations will include
· Henry Hotel on E Church Street (elevator)
· Cat House Loft
· Loft Apartment in the Setback Building on E Church Street
· King’s Loft Apartment in Pythian Building – elevator – Jones Street
· Knights of the Pythian’s meeting room with Pete Fords’ museum corner - elevator
· Former Masonic meeting room in Holt Building
· Newly rehabilitated New College Institute and Governors School classroom space at Jefferson Plaza on E Church Street (elevator)
· Social Services/Montgomery Ward Building on E Church Street (elevator)
· Post Office Building – West Church Street
· 1891 People’s Bank – E Main Street
· Loft Apartment on Walnut Street
· Chief Tassel Building
Starting at 1:30 PM the Makeover MHC information sessions will be held in the Jefferson Plaza in the Uptown Partners Office, which is across from the Daily Grind. The first session at 1:30 PM will feature Steve Sunderman, Principal of RRMM Architects and past-Chair of the United States Green Building Council of Southwest Virginia. Sunderman will discuss green building solutions in historical buildings.
The second session is at 2 PM, and features Brian Brown of Renewable Engineered Systems, LLC in Martinsville. Brown will discuss creative energy solutions for the home owner and business owner. These sessions are brought to you free of charge by the City of Martinsville’s Architectural Review Board and Makeover MHC committee members.
