The presentation will focus on discerning the various types of log houses and touch on other common types of log buildings, primarily those in southwest and south-central Virginia, and discuss key dating clues and important items in recordation. The presenter will reflect on the use of dendrochronology (tree ring dating) and when it might, or might not be appropriate; and hopes to generally build appreciation for the increasingly few surviving, un-restored log structures in Virginia and encourage archaeologists and history enthusiasts to document them while they still stand.
