We had a great annual meeting on May 22. This time our annual meeting was held in our wonderfully restored courtroom. The audience enjoyed an entertaining and informative program given by Terry Mitchell on being a teenager in Martinsville in the ‘50s. It brought back memories to some of the audience.
Elections were held, so I would like to announce that JoAnne Philpott is the new president of the historical society, Sandra Shell is the new vice president, Joyce Hazelwood is taking over the role as Secretary and Barbara Kirk is now our treasurer. Thanks and a certificate of appreciation was given to our outgoing board members, Sam Davis, Larry Turner, Suzanne Britt and Michael Waddell.
It has been a privilege to serve as president of the historical society for four years. I appreciate the confident that the board and members had in me to blaze a new trail for the society. I feel the society is in good hands with Debbie Hall as our Executive Director and with the new board members and officers.
